Youth are the future of our urban forest.
As the City of Lynn builds its urban forestry program, we will meaningfully involve, employ, and mentor youth. A $550,000 U.S. Forest Service and Arbor Day Foundation urban forestry grant received by the City in 2024 reserves $72,000 for creation of a youth program. Due to federal funding freeze on the US Forest Service potentially influencing this funding, we plan to begin this program in summer 2025.
We will use the funding to create a 2-part program (school-year and summer), June 2025 – June 2027, employing local youth to “earn and learn” hard skills for green jobs (urban forestry) and soft skills for any career (employability).
