In 2023, the City of Lynn adopted its comprehensive plan, Vision Lynn, which focuses on making Lynn a place where people feel safe, have access to opportunities, and can enjoy a strong sense of community and pride. Vision Lynn emphasizes integrating arts and culture into city development through strategies like public art, street art, mixed-use buildings, and cultural activities. It also aims to support investment in the local creative economy. The City of Lynn is committed to strengthening arts, culture, and community life to support economic development and build a more connected and inclusive city.
Lynn’s Artsand Culture Planbuilds onVision Lynn and develops dedicated strategies to support the city’s creative sector and to expand residents’ access and participation in the local arts and culture programming. To do so, this plan assesses the current state of Lynn’s creative economy, including artist space needs. The plan also analyzes the community’s programming and gaps in the cultural offerings.
Process
This process is joint effort between the City of Lynn Planning Department, the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC), and community stakeholders.
The work is taking place in four steps:
Mapping Our Cultural Assets:We are building an inventory of the artists, organizations, and cultural spots that exist in Lynn today, while reviewing existing city policies, funding sources, and opportunities.
Community & Creative Engagement:We are hosting conversations, surveys, and events to hear directly from Lynn residents, local business owners, artists, and cultural workers about what they want to see.
Analyzing Strengths and Gaps:We will review community feedback toidentifywhat is working well, where gaps exist, and where new investments will have the biggest impact.
Finalizing the Cultural Plan:We will write an official strategy document that outlines action steps for the City to follow.
